The Grand Babylon Hotel (Audible Audio Edition) Arnold Bennet Anna Simon SAGA Egmont Books Reviews
first AB book I've read (that I can remember)... certainly 'of it's time'... but enjoyable and glad to have discovered it in an electronic edition. It surely made a long overseas flight to Chicago go smoothly...
It was OK, just OK. There were some good parts, but also some tedious parts. I'm not in a hurry to read any more of his.
It's an interesting story, especially if you like 19th century literature. Perhaps not quite at the level of Sherlock Holmes but still worthwhile.
Charming, approachable, fast-paced, with complex and engaging characters. The lead female protagonist, Nella, is a surprisingly modern strong and smart woman. This is a definite gem, and for free.
A clever and charming book. Interesting characters and a mystery that will keep you guessing. A fun, easy, and pleasant read.
Poorly plotted with paper-thin characters pretending to be a forerunner of Agatha Christie but coming nowhere near to predecessors Willkie Collins or Arthur Conan Doyle.
Bennett has brought to life an old hotel that limited interacting Royal heads and the two wealthiest men in the world--one from New York and the other from somewhere in Switzerland, and lately of London. The story is alive with murder. intrigue and kidnappery.
This "who-done-it" captured my attention from beginning to end.
Easy read. Read while traveling.
